Our Dental Porcelain Veneers: Materials and Types
We have many kinds of ceramic veneers. This helps you pick the right one for each patient’s smile. This is a big part of good treatment planning. We use many different materials for restorations. You can always find the right choice for your case. We know that every patient is different.
This table gives a quick comparison of the two main materials for ceramic veneers:
| Feature | Lithium Disilicate | Zirconia |
| Composition | Glass-ceramic (~70% crystalline) | Polycrystalline ceramic (no glass phase) |
| Flexural Strength | 360–500 MPa | 900–1200 MPa |
| Fracture Toughness | ~2.5–3.0 MPa·m½ | 5–10 MPa·m½ |
| Translucency | Good, adjustable | Lower (improving with new generations) |
| Bonding | Etchable, silanizable (strong) | Air abrasion, MDP primers (technique-sensitive) |
| Prep Requirement | 0.5–0.7 mm | ≥0.5–0.7 mm (can be more aggressive) |
| Wear Resistance | Similar to enamel | High (can wear opposing if not polished) |
| 10-Year Survival Rate | 94–97% | Less robust data for veneers (>90% at 5 years) |
| Lab Cost/Labor | Moderate (pressed/milled) | Moderate (milled/sintered) |
| Clinical Indications | Moderate discoloration, balance of strength/aesthetics | Bruxers, high-load areas, masking discoloration |
We also offer great CAD/CAM veneers. These are made with computer-aided design for a perfect fit. For long-lasting beauty, our indirect veneers are much better than composite veneers or direct bonding. These beautiful ceramic shells are the top choice for cosmetic work.
Your Simple Guide to Getting Our Veneers
Working with us is easy. We have a simple process to get you the best ceramic teeth veneers.
- Send Your Case. First, you choose the case. Then you send us the patient’s information. You can use an intraoral scanner to send digital impressions. This is fast and easy!
- Design the Smile. We use a process called Digital Smile Design (DSD). We can also make a wax-up or mock-up. This lets the patient see a preview of their new smile before the final cementation.
- We Make the Veneers. Our modern dental lab gets to work. We do the custom making. We create each of the dental porcelain veneers with a lot of care.
- You Get the Veneers. We send you the final cosmetic porcelain veneers. We also send temporary veneers for the patient to wear. They are ready for the adhesive bonding process in your office.
Our Promise of Top Quality
Our focus on checking our work gives you the best ceramic teeth veneers. We pay attention to the small details that matter.
- We promise a perfect fit. This is called marginal adaptation. It means there are no leaks, or microleakage.
- Our veneers are very strong and resist breaking (fracture resistance).
- We help you pick the right resin cement or luting agent.
- Our minimally invasive dentistry approach protects tooth vitality. We are careful not to expose deep dentin. This keeps the gums healthy (periodontal health).
Our promise to make great ceramic veneers is based on our strict work rules and a strong commitment to quality. Our ways of working are made to give you great-looking and working results every time, speed up delivery, and help us talk easily with our partners.
Impression Taking
A good veneer starts with a good impression.
- Digital vs. Regular Impressions: We highly recommend using a digital intraoral scanner. This method is more accurate, has less distortion, and makes it easier to track the case than old-fashioned impression methods. Our information shows that when we use digital impressions, the number of remakes can drop by up to 30%, which makes everything much faster.
- Disinfection Rules: Following international rules for cleaning impressions is very important. This stops the spread of germs and prevents the material from breaking down, which can ruin the fit and the edges.
Model Pouring
For cases that need a physical model, being exact is important.
- Choosing Materials: We use a strong dental stone that doesn’t change shape much. We also use 3D-printed models more and more because they are very accurate and consistent.
- Checking Mixers: Checking and taking care of our vacuum mixers and scales is very important to make sure the mix of materials is exact, following international standards for dental gypsum products.
Wax-Up
The wax-up step is very important for the shape and design.
- Digital Wax-Up: Our advanced CAD/CAM systems let us do virtual try-ins and have exact control over the shape and contacts. This cuts down on mistakes made by hand and lets us change the design easily.
- Manual Wax-Up: For very complex cosmetic cases, our expert ceramists use very careful hand-done wax-up methods, keeping the room conditions just right to prevent any changes in shape.
Layering and Build-Up
This step gives the veneer its beautiful depth and life-like look.
- Handling Materials: We only use very pure ceramic materials. We carefully control the thickness of the mix and add it in small layers to stop tiny holes from forming inside and to make sure it’s strong.
- Controlling Contamination: Our clean-room rules and strict handling steps keep oil and dust away. This prevents problems like layers separating or the color changing in a bad way.
Firing
The firing process is very important for the material’s strength and look.
- Checking the Furnace: Our ceramic furnaces are checked every year with special heat sensors, following international standards. This makes sure the color is the same every time and the material is strong.
- Firing Times: We strictly follow the firing plans recommended by the maker. We use real-time temperature tracking to stop the veneers from being over- or under-fired.
Finishing and Polishing
The final steps make sure the surface is great and it will last a long time.
- Choosing Tools: We use special diamond-covered polishers and low-speed tools to reduce tiny cracks on the surface and get a smooth finish that is safe for the body.
- Quality Check: Every veneer is checked one last time under a powerful microscope. We also use advanced spectrophotometers for an exact color check, making sure it blends in perfectly with the patient’s natural teeth.
Quality Systems & Certifications
Our promise of quality is backed up by strong management systems.
- ISO Standards: Istar Dental Lab follows all the rules of international quality management systems for medical devices and dental ceramics. These certifications are proof of our strict quality checks and are often needed to be approved internationally.
- Keeping Records: We use modern digital systems to track every step of a case. This makes sure everything is clear and we are responsible for our work.
