Our Custom Dental Appliances

We make more than just a guard for teeth grinding. We create a wide variety of products to meet all your needs. We are very clear about the details and steps of how we make them.

At Istar Dental Lab, we offer different kinds of night guards, all carefully made to help with the different problems patients have with bruxism and jaw joint problems (TMD). Our products include soft, hard, and dual-layer night guards. Each one uses special new materials to make them work better, feel more comfortable, and last longer.

Product Types and When to Use Them

Choosing the right type of night guard is very important. It depends on how bad the teeth grinding is, if the patient has TMD, and how likely the patient is to wear it.

Hard Night Guards: These are mostly made from a strong, medical-safe plastic. We recommend them for medium to serious teeth grinding because they are very strong and help keep the bite stable. They are also the best choice for patients with TMD, especially those with jaw muscle pain, because they give very exact control over the bite and can be adjusted with great detail. Hard guards stay in place better and last longer, usually 3–5 years. Because they are stiff and custom-fit, they are less likely to cause teeth to move when they shouldn’t. They might not feel as comfortable at first compared to softer guards, but long-term studies show that symptoms are less likely to come back.

Soft Night Guards: These are usually made from flexible plastics and are often given for mild teeth grinding or as a short-term solution. They are flexible and comfortable, so patients, especially younger ones or those with sensitive mouths, are more willing to wear them at first. However, they can wear out and lose their shape quickly under strong biting or grinding, and they usually last from 6–18 months. Soft guards can also sometimes cause small tooth movements or increase jaw muscle activity at night in some people who grind their teeth.

Dual-Laminate Night Guards: These guards are a mix of two materials. They have a soft inner layer (often a flexible plastic) for comfort and a good fit, and a hard outer layer (usually a stiff plastic) for strength and to resist wear. They offer a good balance of comfort and strength, making them a good choice for patients with medium teeth grinding who need the strength of a hard guard but want a softer feel. Dual-laminate guards are generally in the middle between soft and hard guards when it comes to how long they last and their value for the money.

New Materials: Features, Benefits, and Best Uses

Our promise to always find new and better ways is shown in the modern materials we choose and use. This makes sure every night guard we make works as well as possible.

Medical-Grade Acrylics: These materials, like PMMA, are known for being very hard and stiff.

  • Features: Acrylics are very resistant to changing shape under biting pressure. They hold their shape well and can be polished to a very smooth surface, which helps reduce plaque buildup.
  • Benefits: They are extremely strong for serious teeth grinding, allow for exact bite control, and last a long time. They are less likely to cause unwanted tooth movement.
  • Best For: Perfect for severe bruxism, difficult bite adjustments, and managing TMD where a stable bite is very important.

BPA-Free Thermoplastics: We focus on patient safety and using materials that are safe for the body. That’s why we make wide use of BPA-free plastics, which solve the worries linked to older types of plastic. These include modern copolyester materials and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA).

  • Features:
    • Stiff Thermoplastics (like some copolyesters): These offer good resistance to cracking and keep their shape and strength.
    • Flexible Thermoplastics (like EVA): These are much more flexible and provide great cushioning.
    • Chemical Safety: These materials are very good at resisting damage from water, acids, and other things in the mouth. In tests that copy mouth conditions, they show very little breakdown over 1-2 years. Studies show they are not harmful to cells and do not irritate the mouth, doing better than some older plastics that could leak small chemical parts.
  • Benefits:
    • Patient Comfort: Softer plastics feel more comfortable at first and fit better than hard acrylics.
    • Impact Resistance: They are generally better at taking a hit without breaking than acrylics.
    • Lower Allergy Risk: There is less chance of an allergic reaction compared to some older materials.
    • Looks: Some stiff plastics are better at resisting stains and staying clear because they are less porous and have a smoother finish.
  • Best For: Flexible plastics are great for mild teeth grinding and for patient comfort. Stiff plastics are good for medium teeth grinding, offering a balance of strength and comfort. Dual-laminate designs give you the best of both.

New Options and Future Ideas

We are always looking for and testing new materials to make our night guards even better:

  • Advanced Polymers: We are looking into materials like PEEK because they are incredibly resistant to wear and safe for the body, though they are too expensive for now.
  • 3D-Printed Resins: These materials allow us to create shapes made just for one person and to make models quickly. We are still gathering long-term information on how they wear and how safe they are, but they are a big step forward in making custom products quickly.

Our Simple and Exact Process

We have made our process easy for you. Our language is professional and exact so you know you are getting expert service. At Istar Dental Lab, our manufacturing process mixes old-school skills with the latest computer technology. This ensures every night guard we make is exact, well-made, and of the best quality. Our work process is designed for smooth production and very strict quality checks.

Core Manufacturing Processes

We use a mix of methods, combining proven techniques with new digital tools to get the best results.

Traditional Methods: The old way of making guards involves skilled experts shaping them by hand from plastic sheets or acrylics, using vacuums or heat. This method takes a lot of hands-on time for taking impressions, pouring models, shaping, trimming, and polishing. While it works, it can lead to differences in how different people make them and can take longer.

CAD/CAM and 3D Printing: Our large investment in digital tools, including CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) and 3D printing, has completely changed how we make night guards.

  • Digital Process: The standard digital process starts with a digital mouth scan, which replaces old impressions with very accurate digital models. These models are then put into advanced dental computer software, where our experts design the night guard with amazing accuracy. This digital design step allows for automatic checks of the edges, bite, and fit, which greatly reduces human error.
  • 3D Printing: We use the latest 3D printing technologies, like DLP, LCD, and SLA, to make night guards from safe, special resins. These resins are approved as safe for use inside the mouth and meet strict worldwide rules.
  • Finishing: After printing, the guards go through a very careful finishing process, including washing and curing under special light and heat. This is very important to make sure the material fully hardens, is safe for the body, and is as strong and effective as possible.
  • Milling: For some materials, like PMMA, we use advanced machines to carve night guards from pre-made discs of material. This method also provides high accuracy and consistency.

Quality and Safety You Can Trust

Patient safety is our top priority. That is why we are a night guard dental lab that only uses the best materials. Istar Dental Lab makes sure that all materials we use are FDA-cleared or CE-marked for use inside the mouth, following the highest standards for safety and being safe for the body.

Workflows and Quality Checks

Our work process is carefully planned to ensure great quality every time, from the first order to the final delivery. Quality control (QC) is part of every step, helped by modern technology and strict rules.

Detailed Quality Check Rules

  • Impression and Model Accuracy: For traditional methods, we have a multi-step check for the quality of impressions, looking for gaps, rips, or warped shapes. For digital methods, we run automatic checks on the digital scans.
  • Material Strength Testing: We regularly test our night guard materials for hardness and strength, using international standards. We also test samples from each batch and keep track of all materials used.
  • Checking by Sight and Touch: Our quality check experts carefully look at and feel the guards at several points—after trimming, after polishing, and before shipping. They check for smooth edges, no bubbles or things trapped inside, and even thickness (usually 2–3 mm). They use special tools for exact measurements.
  • Checking the Fit: The physical fit is checked on master models. More and more, we use a digital fit check by comparing 3D models, which lets us check the fit with an accuracy of less than 100 microns. This greatly reduces the time you need to spend making adjustments in your office.

We offer a perfect fit guarantee on our work. You can trust our top-rated night guards, and we are proud of our excellent night guard reviews from our partners. Let our expert night guard lab be the partner you trust for every mouth piece for grinding you order for your patients.
